After hearing reports that black magic practitioners in Haiti are using a special kind of drug to bring the recently dead back to life an anthropologist travels there to investigate. He soon finds his presence there is unwanted and he gets targeted by the high priest.

This was, and still is my favourite Wes Craven movie. Bill Pullman, Kathy Tyson and Zakes Mokae give great performances, it's very well written and directed, the gore and effects are mostly excellent, although a couple of optical effects look a bit dated today. Overall though this is actually pretty scary stuff.

Filmed on location in Haiti, well most of it was as the cast and crew were told that because of what was happening in the country at the time their safety could no longer be guaranteed so they had to relocate to film some of it and it gives the whole thing an air of danger and authenticity that's genuinely creepy. One of my favourite movies and I'd give this a high reccomendation if you're looking for something quite unique and frightening.
