Nosferatu The Vampyre (1979)

After Jonathan Harker visits Count Dracula's castle to sell him a house Dracula signs the contract and prepares to move to Wismar. When he does he brings along death and plague and soon Harker's wife Lucy becomes the focus of the counts obsession.

Wener Herzog's version of this classic tale is a stunning feast for the eyes. Full of stylistic and arty shots, excellent performances and the whole movie carries a very creepy atmosphere with it. The always stunning Isabelle Adjani is wonderful as Lucy, Bruno Ganz give a fine performance as Harker and Klaus Kinski gives one of his best performances as Dracula, making him come across as tragic, creepy and terrifying all at the same time. The sets and constumes are all wonderful and the excellent cinematography makes for a visually stunning film. Some may find the whole thing a little slow moviing, but for me that isn't a problem as I'm a fan of the more arty horror movies. Even so, this is is still a fantastic movie and one of my favourite vampire movies.
