After being locked up in a mental asylum for murdering his sister when he was a child, Michael Myers escapes after 15 years and returns to his home town of Haddonfield with murder still on his mind.

One of the most well known horror films ever made Halloween is often cited as the birth of the slasher movie genre. It is of course not as movies like Black Christmas and Twitch Of The Death Nerve came well before it, but it did bring slasher movies into the mainstream as is still one of the best of it's kind. Light on gore but high on atmosphere and genuine scares this still holds up decades later.

Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasence head the good cast and both do an excellent job. The supporting cast are also excellent, and of course Michael Myers himself has become a rightful horror icon. The score by Director John Carpenter is just as iconic as Michael himself and the influence this movie has had can not be underestimated. This may not be my favourite slasher movie, Black Christmas which came out 5 years earlier is better in my opinion, but this is still a must see for any horror fan.
