The
dead have taken over. In an underground bunker a group of scientists and a
group of military personal butt heads as to the best way to deal with the
problem.
The
3rd part of George Romero's "Dead" movies still splits fans. Some say it's the
worst of the original trilogy, some say it's the best. I have to admit that,
for me, it's my favourite of all his zombie movies. Night and Dawn are both
amazing, but there's just something about this one that sets it above the other
two. Sure, some of the acting is over the top and the constant shouting at each
other can get a little tiresome, but that's probably how people who are stuck
together underground would be after a while.
It's a
shame that the budget was cut by quite a lot leaving Romero unable to give us
his original vision. The character of Bub, the "smart" zombie was great and I'd
love to have seen that fleshed out more. The gore is the star of the show here
though. Tom Savini created what I think remains as the peak of practical
effects. Along with The Fly, The Thing and An American Werewolf In London,
practical effcects really were top tier around this time. The gore in Day is so
well done and very realisitic. There's far too much good stuff to list here so
just watch it and see for yourself.
A
classic movie and one I'd highly recommend. In fact just watch Night, Dawn and
Day back to back for an evening of awesome zombie fun.
