three young anthropologists take a trip to a Columbia jungle in an attempt to disprove cannibalsim. They run into two drug dealers who were using the natives to help them harvest coca leaves but it soon becomes clear they were also torturing them and now all their lives are in danger.

Probably the second most well know cannibal movie after Cannibal Holocaust, this brutal Italian movie is as shocking and nasty as they come. Lots of very graphic gore including castration, eyes gouged out, guts pulled out and eaten, hands chopped off, a woman hung up with metal hooks through her breasts and the top of someones head sliced off and the brains picked out and eaten. Add to this lots of nudity, sexual assault and plenty of real animal deaths and you have a movie that most people will find highly offensive.

Giovanni Lambardo Radice, Lorraine De Selle and Zora Kerova head up the main cast and all do a decent job with what they have to work with. Giovanni said on many occasions that he hated the finished movie and pretty much disowned it. It's not for everyone that's for sure and because it's not as well made as Cannibal Holocaust it does seem to come across as more repulsive.

Often cited as being banned in 31 countries, doubtful, but wouldn't surprise me, it did get banned here in the UK and ended up as one of the infamous final 39 videos nasties. Even today it's still cut due to the real animal violence it contains. I do quite enjoy this one, but there's better cannibal movies out there if you want to dip your toes into the murky waters of this grubby little sub genre.
